breehorn 53 Pilothouse

The Breehorn shipyard in the Netherlands has been commissioned to build the first Breehorn 53 pilothouse.

As with all Breehorn yachts, the brief is to create a no compromise long-distance cruiser that sails well and can take adverse weather conditions in its stride.
With this in mind the designer Simonis-Voogd has chosen a conservative hull shape with a deep bow and a stern, more narrow than is customary today.

For long voyages, a low maintenance ship is essential.
Therefore the hull will be untreated aluminium which is stiff and perfect for small series construction.
The deck will be of composite construction based on a 3D machined mould.
Such a deck offers more seating comfort (less cold and more rounded shapes), and is corrosion resistant especially underneath fittings and the optional teak deck.
Because of the sandwich construction it is actually stiffer than aluminium while the inherent insulation qualities and the absence of stiffeners increases headroom below.

The ship is equipped with a pilot house which has a full seating area on the starboard side with a L-shaped sofa and a table with an extendible top.
So not only is this area good for having a coffee or a drink, it is actually a spacious dining area with an outside view.
The seats are two metres long making it possible to stretch out for a quick nap when on watch.  
Aft of the pilothouse is a large comfortable cockpit where one can sit still sheltered under the overhang of the pilothouse.
Two steering wheels allow for freedom of movement while a central solid  table encourages al fresco dining.

As with all Breehorn yachts, the designer has again opted for a short superstructure and a spacious clear foredeck.
There is a roomy owners cabin forward and the client has opted for another double cabin ahead of the main bulkhead.
Aft, two spacious double cabins complete the sleeping accommodation.
The U-shaped galley and the chart-table are located in the centre of the vessel to allow for extended use when under-way.
In the main cabin is a U-shaped sofa with a fold-out table with space for up to ten people.

Materials and equipment are all from well-known quality suppliers with the focus on reliability.
This yacht will be delivered ready to sail and represents excellent value for money.
